Painted by Hvas

Malthe Hvas is a researcher at the Institute of Marine Research, where he works with fish physiology, marine ecology and aquaculture research, with a particular focus on how fish respond to environmental challenges and conditions in aquaculture and nature. He was born and raised in Aarhus, Denmark, and has a master's degree in biology from Aarhus University (2015). Hvas later received his doctorate with a thesis on the physiology and welfare of Atlantic salmon and cleaner fish in exposed aquaculture environments, a work carried out at the Institute of Marine Research's research station in Matre. In his research, he studies, among other things, the fish's swimming capacity, metabolism and physiological responses to factors such as temperature, current conditions and stress, as well as how these affect fish welfare in both aquaculture and natural environments.
