Xueliang Wen from the University of Stavanger presents research on fish tolerance to low currents in offshore aquaculture. He shows how large cages are more prone to hypoxic conditions, with fish welfare challenged when dissolved oxygen falls below the critical 6 mg/L threshold. Using a new model, Wen quantifies how cage size and current speed affect oxygen levels and highlights how these insights can guide safer offshore production and planning of future sites.
